Pupils employ business skills for delicious prego project

Business, sales and cooking skills were put to the test on May 29 when the grade sevens of Summerhill Prep School sold prego rolls during break.

The project helped raise funds for the grade’s annual tea party for senior citizens, which will be held later this year.

The skills pupils had acquired during their economic and management science classes, were put into practice and they were required to hold planning sessions to determine the cost of the sale. Learners were encouraged to plan and submit their own job descriptions and assist in the planning, presenting, cooking and selling of the pregos.

Most of the preparations were completed the day before. Many pupils had to wipe away their tears as they peeled and cut the onions, but they managed to turn the hard work into a lot of fun.

Teacher Polla Jansen van Vuuren said they had displayed great teamwork and the learners impressed her with their enthusiasm. The project also served to teach them about the hard work and preparation it took to run a business.
