Penryn’s music learners play out their love for music

Under the watchful eye of music teachers, Ms Liz van der Merwe, Ms Joanne Fisher-Steyn and Mr Andrew Kay, the learners all excelled in their own music style and song choice.

MBOMBELA – Penryn College has become one of the Lowveld’s most vibrant musical talent hubs.

This was evident last Tuesday when a number of music learners demonstrated their skills to the whole school in the chapel.

Under the watchful eye of music teachers, Ms Liz van der Merwe, Ms Joanne Fisher-Steyn and Mr Andrew Kay, the learners all excelled in their own music style and song choice.

Tumetse Pilane started with a number of modern hit singles which she nailed to perfection.

She truly proved that dynamite does indeed come in small packages with a powerful voice resonating from her petite physique.

Amy Lee Card and Randzu Ngobeni added something different to the One Direction song, “Little Things” with a beautiful duet that complemented their vocal abilities.

The audience loved every minute of the song and applause erupted when Ryan Osborn made his way onto the stage.

Ryan is known for his extroverted personality and this could be seen when he moved to every beat of the two songs he performed.

The first song was the classic hit, “Lean on Me” which had everyone singing along too.

The next song had the same effect when he pulled out OMI’s current radio hit, “Cheerleader.”

Aimélee Richter also impressed with a powerful version of Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” which exemplified her vocal range as she hit some difficult high notes.

Megan McFarlane, Gabriela Marais and Paul Roos also impressed with their renditions on stage as each singer showed off their talent and passion for music.

“This is a great place for the learners to get used to performing in front of an audience. They performed beautifully in front of all their friends.

“The response was something they did not expect,” said Van der Merwe, head of music department at Penryn.
