Cashbuild’s art at heart competition

BURGERSFORT – The local Cashbuild outlet changed the lives of local learners for the better when it donated R15 000 in vouchers to eight primary schools in Tubatse.

This was part of its Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition which entails learners from local institutions submitting their best artwork to the store.

The chosen schools that participated included Sehloi, Mafemane, Marakabela, Magakantshe,Tswetlane, Malekgobo and Banareng primary schools. The winners was Sehloi Primary and a learner of the school, Gerald Magabe won with his drawing. He received goodies that included stationery, a T-shirt and glass trophy. Magabe’s artwork will be on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years. He also got an opportunity to reopen the store by cutting wood with a saw.

According to the managing director of the store, Mr Shane Thorrison, an upgraded kitchen, new doors and bathrooms are some of the repairs that the schools plan to make.

“We are doing this for the love of the communities; the learner’s parents are our loyal customers. In the next five years we will come back and donate to other schools, ” he promised.

The principal of Mafemane Primary School, Ms AM Mahlangu said, “Currently we prepare our daily soup/stew from a shack and it is very unhealthy. We will use the Cashbuild voucher to upgrade the kitchen.”

The Art-at-Heart competition is a southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to needy schools. Since the campaign’s launch 13 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 1 700 schools with over R20 million’s worth of building material.
