Personnel held at gunpoint at tourist attraction

HAZYVIEW – Three masked men held up a manager, waiters and two patrons with handguns at a restaurant at Perry’s Bridge, a well-known tourist attraction, last night. The men made off with an undisclosed amount of money, liquor and a customer’s handbag.
The robbery occurred around 21:30, as the staff of the restaurant were closing shop. Three men walked in the front door, pulled masks over their faces and pointed guns at four staff members and the last few customers. The suspects ordered everyone to lie on the floor and proceeded to help themselves to an undisclosed amount of money from the safe, as well as hard liquor.
“It was over in less than five minutes,” said the manager who was on duty, who did not want her name mentioned. “They shoved one of the waiters out of their way and gave him quite a klap. They also hit me in the face.”
The person responsible for the centre, Mr Willem Fick jnr, did not want to divulge any more information on the incident. He made it clear that he did not want the story published. He shouted at the reporter, “Publish your story and we’ll see what happens.”
The case was reported to Hazyview SAPS. No arrests have been made yet.
According to Brig Selvy Mohlala, SAPS provincial spokesman, it will be difficult to make arrests since the victims did not see their faces or take note of the registration plates of the vehicle the robbers used to flee the scene.
