St Thomas donates to the needy

“With the school doing well academically, I thought it was the perfect time for us to assist the needy and vulnerable learners in the villages. We have seen the suffering of most kids and we chose to help with the little we have.

PRAKTISEER – St Thomas College changed the lives of the needy and vulnerable kids at Praktiseer Home-based Care. The school decided to buy them uniforms and donated food parcels. The kids are attending two local schools namely Koboti Primary and Kweledi Secondary.

The college’s learners donated R1 for the month of June while the teachers each donated R10 and the principal R100 to buy groceries and uniforms to the orphans and underprivileged children at the centre.

The principal of the college, Mr TGK John said his learners and the staff had done so voluntarily.

“With the school doing well academically, I thought it was the perfect time for us to assist the needy and vulnerable learners in the villages. We have seen the suffering of most kids and we chose to help with the little we have.

“We are not doing this for public exposure, I believe it is our social responsibility to once in a while help those in need,” John said.

“Our aim is to bring joy into the lives of the orphans and we achieved that,” he added.

Ms Irene Mmola, one of the caretakers at Praktiseer Home-based Care, thanked the school for the food parcels and uniforms. “When we heard St Thomas was going to donate goodies to the children, I thought it would be from the teachers, I am just thrilled that even the learners participated in the initiative.”

St Thomas plans to donate to other needy learners in the coming months. The school has also previously donated clothes to members of the Burgersfort Roman Catholic Church.
