Local SAPS refute assault rumours
The Malelane Police Station encourages the community to come forward and report any inappropriate behaviour shown or committed by local police officers.
RIVERSIDE FARM – This came after recent allegations of police assault, and a lack of confidence in the SAPS by residents from Riverside Farm, a farming village outside Malalane.
These accusations followed a woman’s arrest who had reportedly staged her husband’s alleged murder, who was still currently missing.
Community members took it upon themselves to embark on a search for the man who had gone missing on May 9.
According to a reliable source the couple had initially gone missing together, however, the wife returned without her husband weeks later.
After being plagued by questions from residents, she had admitted to being involved in her spouse’s alleged murder.
Locals claimed that police assaulted this woman and left her for dead after she had been handed over to them by the community.
However, spokesman for Malelane SAPS, Sgt Bheki Nkosi, dismissed the allegations of assault against the station. According to Nkosi these were all unfounded accusations against the station and its police officers.
“If any of the allegations are true, and someone was assaulted let them come forward and report the matter directly to the station commander, so that it can be investigated. They have the right to report this crime and the station commander’s door is always open.”
Nkosi stated that the incident was still regarded as a missing-persons case.
“We are not ruling out the possibilities of murder, however, at the moment there is not enough evidence to suggest that it has become a murder case.” He added that he had heard of these assault allegations through media reports, and was not aware of them previously.
