Sixteen survive head-on collision
Sixteen people narrowly escaped death on Friday evening when a taxi and a Mercedes-Benz were involved in a head-on collision on the N4.

KOMATIPOORT – According to Komatipoort SAPS spokesman, Const Natacia Mbuyane, the accident occurred when the taxi driver who had been travelling towards Komatipoort, overtook another vehicle.
“The one vehicle was overtaking, and the other approaching at high speed we believe. The taxi which was overtaking was unable to do so successfully,” Mbuyane explained. Police are still investigating the incident.
Mbuyane added that both drivers were being investigated for reckless and negligent driving. Nine passengers from the taxi sustained minor injuries and were hospitalised at Tonga Hospital.
The taxi driver was also hospitalised with serious injuries, while the driver of the Mercedes-Benz had escaped uninjured.
