Police are looking for anyone with information on the stoning of a man in Msholozi on July 1. According to WO Gugulethu Phiri, White River SAPS communications officer, police found a body of a man covered with bricks. Paramedics declared him dead on the scene. It is suspected that this was a case of mob justice.

Besides this tragic incident, police had a successful two weeks, with 19 suspects arrested on various charges during routine operations.
Twelve suspects were taken into custody on June 25 during a joint operation with municipal officials. The suspects appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court the next day.
One suspect was in court on charges of possession of counterfeit cigarettes and appeared in court on Tuesday again. Boxes of counterfeit cigarettes and illegal DVDs were also recovered.
Three women and seven men were arrested as illegal immigrants, while one man was arrested for being in possession of dagga.
The police also conducted an awareness campaign in Plaston on the same day, where the station commander addressed workers on domestic violence. Workers were encouraged not to be afraid to go to the police when they or someone they knew, were victims.
Domestic violence has been cited as a big problem in rural settlements and the police hope to eradicate it and educate victims through various awareness campaigns.
During the first weekend of July, seven suspects were arrested on charges including theft, drinking in public, common assault and possession of dagga. They will appear in the White River Magistrate’s Court between July 7 and 15.
