Body dumping is rife in Emjindini, so much so that aborted foetuses have become one of the major causes of sewer blockages.
Two foetuses were found in a drain at Extension 11 in Emjindini on Sunday. According to police spokesman, Const Tutu Nkosi, Umjindi Local Municipality workers were cleaning a blocked drain when they came across the foetuses. One is believed to have be about 12 weeks old.
“Police received a complaint that a body was found in the drain. A case of concealment of death has been opened and investigation is ongoing. Police appealed to anyone who might have information to come forward,” she said.
Spokesman for the municipality, Sam Jele said, “Most of the blocked drains that we unclog are usually because of babies that have been dumped into toilets after illegal abortions. Residents should desist from such practices.”
