Local man dies after fishing trip
A family with a house in Marloth Park lost their son on Friday night.
De Wet van der Merwe, whose parents won property in Marloth Park, died after he slipped and fell from a rock he was standing on after a fishing trip in Komati area. According to his friends, who were with him at the time, he wanted a photo and stood on a rock after all their fishing gear was already packed up and they were going home.
De Wet slipped on the rock, it is thought that he may have hit his head against it and drowned. Police divers found his body later the same night. His parents drove down from Gauteng to identify their son’s body.
