The rumble strips were installed by SANRAL contractors after stakeholders proposed it as a measure to help decrease the number of accidents at the traffic circle.
With four accidents in four months, business people were getting fed-up with the damage and inconvenience caused.
Despite being grateful that attention was being paid to this problem, locals critisised the rumble strips saying that they weren’t big enough to make trucks slow down and were placed too close to the traffic circle to act as advance warning.
Stakeholders, however, hope that these measures can bring them a step closer to starting the beautification project of the circle. The aim is to turn the circle into a showpiece depicting the plight of the rhino, to encourage people to get involved with anti-poaching initiatives and act as an attraction to welcome visitors to the town.
