Democracy not present here – villagers
"We usually only receive water when there are funerals in the village and weddings," said a local.
MOROKE – Residents in this area still do not believe they live under a democratic government because service delivery is a major concern.
With water containers and buckets in their wheelbarrows, women, children and young boys of Ditwaing Village line up at two separate taps, hoping for a drop of water.
“We usually only receive water when there are funerals in the village and weddings,” said a local.
Water problems in the area make it impossible for residents to maintain their livestock and crops.
“We have tried so many times to appeal to the Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) but to no avail. We have been suffering with water problems for a very long time,” said another resident as she filled up one of her containers.
“It’s hard to believe that after more than 20 years of democracy, we still don’t have it. It hurts us to see politicians boast about democracy in the media but still neglect the people.”
Steelburger/Lydenburg News spoke to the spokesman for SDM, Mr Willy Mosoma who said that they did not know about the situation of Ditwaing.
“As the district municipality we will ensure the situation is addressed and the locals will receive water more often,” he said.
