Trucks wreak havoc in town

Illegal overnight parking in town by truck drivers continues to cause maintenance headaches for the Nkomazi Local Municipality (NLM).

MALALANE -This was revealed by the spokesman for the NLM, Mr Cyril Ripinga, on Monday.

According to Ripinga, despite the municipality’s efforts to address the problem, it still continues.

“Our traffic officers have been working tirelessly in ensuring that they prevent trucks from parking in and around town. However, they can only work for so many hours and then the truck drivers take advantage of the opportunity to park,” Ripinga explained.

According to him it was these trucks which continued to damage roads and sidewalks.

He said, “These trucks park in areas which are not designated for doing so, thus damaging the roads and pavements.”

“We are still looking at ways to permanently resolve the problem, ”Ripinga said.

Meanwhile homeowners and local businesses have resorted to using truck tyres as barricades to prevent trucks from entering or parking in some areas.

The municipality has begun repairing damages caused by trucks around town.

“We are in the process of repairing the damaged drains,” Ripinga added.
