Stinky water’s cause being investigated

Residents complaining of foul-smelling water are cautioned not to drink it as samples have been sent to labs to test for the cause.

For the past couple of days, residents in certain parts of town have had to put up with foul-smelling water. Some complained of a strong chlorine smell, others of a raw sewage smell, which left residents unsure whether the water is safe to drink and use.

According to the Mbombela Local Municipality, they have received complaints from residents living in Frank Townsend Street and Impala Street, Extension 2 and Parkville.

Samples have been taken to two laboratories and they are still waiting for the results. It was stated that it seems like other parts of the town aren’t affected but that samples were taken as well, as a precaution.

Community members are cautioned not to drink the water in the meantime.

The relevant municipal department promised to report on the water analysis as soon as they received it.
