Dynamic team heralds change

The newly elected mayor, chief whip and members of the mayoral committee (MMCs) said they would do their utmost to return TCM back to its former glory

LYDENBURG – It seems that winds of change are blowing in Thaba Chweu Municipality (TCM).

The newly elected mayor, chief whip and members of the mayoral committee (MMCs) said they would do their utmost to return TCM back to its former glory.

Ms Tiny Mabuza, MMC for finance and technical support, told the newspaper that the appointment of the new committee members was in line with their turnaround strategy.

“We would like the community to come forward so that we can work collectively together, even with the opposition, because we as the MMCs alone cannot work without support, but together we can do more,” she said.

Mr Marcus Mashego, MMC for corporate services and human settlements, said since they had been joined by Mabuza, who came from the Ehlanzeni District Municipality, they could ensure that TCM would rise again.

“All the portfolios are linked. Finance, technical, corporate, community services and human settlement work hand in hand.

“I can assure the community that we will be working together supporting the newly elected mayor to ensure that service delivery will be a priority.

“With the team that has been assembled now, we are sure that we will succeed,” he said.

The mayor, Ms Selina Mashego, said the municipality had a “very big elephant called Eskom”.

“We want to make sure that we work with the community to ensure that we pay the Eskom account. This is also relevant to the water crisis the town has been facing the past couple of days. We need to make sure that there is water in each and every area of TCM.

“I will do my best to serve as mayor. I will also make sure to visit each area of town to find out what problems residents are experiencing,” she added.
