MBOMBELA – There were 120 learners from in and around Mbombela who took part. The best project of the day was Zander van der Merwe of Curro with “Kom ons braai”. The number of learners who qualified for the national round was 73.
The learners had an option to submit a project either in life sciences, engineering and design, maths science and technology, environmental sciences and social sciences, health sciences or agricultural sciences.
It is an exciting competition with the following objectives:
• To prepare learners to be informed students, well-equipped for tertiary level education
• To do scientific research
• To incorporate modern technology in the research
• To use science and technology in a responsible manner. The learners must be aware of the impact their projects will have on the environment and/or how it can improve the lives of people
• To equip learners to present their projects/ideas to all interested parties.
The Tritech Nationals will take place in Tzaneen, on September 18 and 19.
“Good luck to these budding young scientists. We’re waiting in anticipation for their successful results. They are going to have an absolutely fabulous time, filled with exciting challenges. They will stand Mpumalanga proud,” Herman Mathee of Curro said.
