MBOMBELA – There’s only 15 days remaining for parents to register their children for the 2016 academic year in Mpumalanga.
According to the Department of Education it is compulsory for children from seven to 15 years to be enrolled in school – this also includes children with special educational needs.
“Any parent who does not comply after having been informed about this obligation by the Head of Department (HOD) may be taken to court in terms of the South African Schools Act no 84 of 1996,” the department said. They urged parents to register their children on or before August 28.
According to the department the early admission of learners also enables schools to begin with teaching and learning on the first day of school reopening without disruptions.
“I urge all parents to heed this call by making the necessary arrangements to register their children on or before the set date. No learner can be refused admission on the basis that his/her parents are unable to pay school fees,” MEC Ms Reginah Mhaule added.
Parents are required by law to produce the following documents as requirement for registration:
• An application form from the school
• Official birth certificates of the child
• Proof of immunisation
• A transfer card if a learner transfers from one public school to another
• The last report card issued by the previous school.
Should a parent experience a problem regarding the registration of a child to a school, he/she should contact the following officials.
