Residents urged to reduce water consumption

The municipality hopes a voluntary reduction in water consumption will postpone the need for restrictions.

For the past few months, residents have been warned to expect water restrictions due to falling water levels.

The Mbombela Local Municipality is now urging residents to voluntarily reduce their water consumption to postpone the need to impose water restrictions.

They suggest that residents do the following:

  • Check their water systems to ensure there are no problems like leaking taps or running toilets.
  • Use water carefully in the garden and avoid wastage.
  • If you have an automatic sprinkler system, make sure it is working properly and that the timer shuts it off when it should.
  • Don’t waste water on footpaths and driveways.
    • Manage your pool correctly to avoid having to constantly drain en fill it.

The municipality says they will keep the community informed as the water situation develops.
