White River residents urged to be water-wise

WHITE RIVER – Town residents are encouraged to use water sparingly after a dry winter. However, the situation is limited to the town only and has not yet reached a stage where restrictions have to be implemented.

“We need to warn residents to reduce their water consumption, as a first step in conservation,’ said Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM) spokesman Mr Jospeh Ngala. “By following these simple steps, we can lower our consumption and thus help reduce the pressure on waterworks.”

The drought has not yet affected Mbombela. “Sembcorp Silulumanzi is responsible for the city’s water supply.

This warning is for residents of White River, of which MLM is the water supplier,” Ngala said.

People are asked to check their water systems to ensure that there are no leaking taps or running toilets; to be careful in the use of water in the garden and avoid overwatering the garden; ensure that any automatic sprinkler systems are working properly and that the timers function correctly; avoid hosing footpaths and driveways; and keep all pool water properly filtered and chemically balanced to avoid drain and constant refill.

“With the community’s cooperation in water conservation, we hope to postpone the need to impose restrictions,” Ngala said.
