MALALANE – Police have confirmed that three members of the force are at large after being busted for smuggling dagga. A special unit reacted to information and three suspects were apprehended in Magudo on duty in full uniform.

According to police’s provincial spokesman,
Brig Selvey Mohlala, it seems as if they were planing on crossing the Swaziland border.
“Police were following information about a van from the Malalane Police Station carrying dagga. When we spotted and stopped the van, three individuals climbed out of the van and fled the scene.”
Police recovered 11 bags containing dagga, each weighing 50 kilograms.
The direction in which the van was heading is popularly known as an entry and exit point for many foreign nationals who enter the country from Swaziland illegally.
Mohlala has told this paper that they are investigating the matter to identify the suspects.
“We suspect that the occupants were police officers, and have opened a case and already started a investigation into the matter,” Mohlala explained.
He furthermore explained that the van was not reported stolen from the police station, stating it appears to have been taken officially.
At the time of going to print no arrests have been made.
Meanwhile Tonga police officers arrested four suspects on Tuesday for possession of dagga.
The suspects were arrested at different locations around the Tonga area, also in possession of different amounts of dagga.
According to spokesman for the Tonga police, Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, one of the suspects, a woman, was growing the dagga inside her yard.
He has furthermore warned community members against dealing, carrying or using dagga.
All the suspects were issued various fines.
