Book store joins MEC’s drive to promote reading

Mr Sheldon Lehmann, store manager of Exclusive Books, expressed his excitement and said they were extremely happy to partner with the department in an attempt to promote reading and improve literacy in Mpumalanga.

MBOMBELA – In an attempt to improve literacy in the province, MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule, recently launched a book club which seems to be a great success thus far.

This week Exclusive Books in Riverside Mall also came on board and agreed to showcase and stock each month’s books as prescribed by the MEC in its store.

Mr Sheldon Lehmann, store manager of Exclusive Books, expressed his excitement and said they were extremely happy to partner with the department in an attempt to promote reading and improve literacy in Mpumalanga.

He said the objective with the book club is to make reading an everyday experience, to inculcate the love of reading among citizens of Mpumalanga, encourage communities to donate books to community and school libraries and to promote the reading of books that are written in indigenous languages, among others.

Membership and involvement in the MEC’s book club is voluntary and any member of the community may join without paying a fee. The department, however, encouraged people to donate the books to a community or school library after reading them.
