Here’s what went down in the city this weekend

A brief summary of this weekend's social events.

This weekend was one of the busiest on the social calendar. It seemed like everything happened simultaneously, from local rugby to a very Capetonian wine-tasting event. Here is a quick round-up of all the action:

Friday:

• The Steval Pumas took on the Golden Lions. Unfortunately for our local heroes, the Lions walked away as the champs of this cat fight. The score was a whopping 41-11 and the Pumas are facing a wave of criticism from their supporters as well as the media.

• Wine lovers were pleased to experience a bit of the Cape right here in their own backyard during the Makro Bubbels and Barrels event at Bee-Eaters farm. A total of 400 people attended the revelry where 30 wine farms exhibited a total of 120 different wines and sparkling wines. Proceeds amounted to a staggering R30 000 which was donated to Pro-Life Pet Rescue.

• South African rock legend Arno Carstens graced the stage of Jock Pub & Grill. The turnout was not as impressive as the organisers might have hoped for, but the crowd was more than pleased to hear familiar Springbok Nude Girls hits at the end of the show.

• Gerald Clarke performed at Stoep until 23:00, making this the perfect end to a riveting night of socialising in the city.

Saturday:

• Women were celebrated at a breakfast hosted by SABC. Speakers advised young women to be who they are and to not let other people’s opinions determine their self-worth.

• A student from Lowveld High School was crowned Miss I’langa Mall at a glamorous event at 16:00. Pearlican Ntshayintshayi walked away with the coveted ribbon.
