Alleged red-light jumper’s blood-alcohol level tested
Members of the public allegedly helped the passenger escape from where he was detained in an ambulance.
Three people were injured when, according to eyewitnesses, a driver skipped a red light and crashed into two cars on Sunday evening. The incident happened on the corner of the N4 and Old Pretoria Road at around 18:00.
Eyewitnesses informed Bossies Community Justice (BCJ) that when authorities arrived, the passenger in the car which had allegedly caused the accident tried to run away with liquor bottles which were in the vehicle.
However, Mr Jacques Meiring, operational manager of BCJ chased after him and detained him in an ambulance until police arrived.

Before the police arrived, members of the public, believed to be the same people who had taken the alcohol, helped the passenger to escape. He has not been seen again.
According to Capt Dawie Pretorius of Mbombela SAPS, the driver was arrested and taken to Rob Ferreira Hospital to have his blood-alcohol level tested. At the time of going to print, the results of the blood test was not yet known.
The driver was released on bail the following morning and will appear in court on March 29, 2016. The three injured people were also discharged.
