Hit-and-run accused has no driver’s licence
He was arrested on charges of culpable homicide, fleeing an accident scene as well as not stopping to offer help.
Another pedestrian has been killed on the city’s roads.
A man was killed near Valencia on Monday morning when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver allegedly drove off without stopping to help the injured man. Eye-witnesses alerted authorities and they arrived moments later.
Mr Jacques Meiring of Bossies Community Justice (BCJ) said the pedestrian was already dead when they arrived on the scene.
Witnesses described the vehicle to BCJ and they started the search for the culprit. They found the suspect at Orchards Shopping Centre.
“He appeared frazzled and scared,” Meiring said.
He told us he was sorry and that he drove off because he got a huge fright as he did not have a licence.
He was arrested on charges of culpable homicide, fleeing an accident scene as well as not stopping to offer help. He will also not be able to obtain a licence for at least five years. He is scheduled to appear in court on all charges today.
