Biker injured in accident on Long Tom
"I remember last night we were busy cleaning the bikes, getting ready for today and now we have to go to the hospital because one of us is injured and I hope it all goes well for him."
LYDENBURG – A motorcyclist was injured after his bike had collided with a vehicle on the Long Tom Pass between Lydenburg and Sabie last Friday.
Mr Eddy Huges (27), a biker of Moon Riders in Pretoria, crashed into the side of the car and was flung across the vehicle.
He sustained injuries to the head and abdomen. Huges was on his way to Pilgrim’s Rest and the motorist was driving towards Lydenburg when the accident occurred.
Traffic came to a standstill while paramedics attended to Huges before transporting him to a hospital in Mbombela.
The motorist had not sustained any injuries. The police and traffic officials were at the scene monitoring the situation. According to his friend, Inge Diedericks, they were on their way to a rally in Pilgrim’s Rest.
“We left Pretoria this morning. We were all in the car until an hour ago. We decided to remove the bikes from the trailer. When he got to the curve he then collided with the car, his head went through the windscreen and he went over the car,” she said.
“When I saw his bike on the ground I was so terrified and when I saw his body, I didn’t even know what to expect. Although when we got closer it was not as bad as I thought. He could talk and the ambulance took him to the hospital. He was complaining about abdominal pains,” Diedericks explained.
