MALALANE – The SAPS have opened a case of the use of state vehicles without authorisation, which has been handed over to the organised-crime unit for further investigation. This comes after police intercepted one of their own vehicles being used by suspected police officers who were seemingly planning the cross the Swaziland border on August 13 at Magudo. After the vehicle was stopped, the three suspects jumped out and fled on foot.
Eleven bags containing dagga, each weighing 50 kilograms, were recovered. No arrests have been made as yet and investigations are continuing.
Their names and ranks have also not yet been disclosed. Meanwhile the station commander, Lt Col Matisdiso Mlambo, is pleased with the recent arrests of dagga suspects made by officers on the N4 and in town. Dagga weighing more than 20 kilograms was prevented from crossing the Nkomazi border, through special roadblock operations held by the station. “Despite challenges in the past week faced by the station there are still a few
good officers. And these successes are proof that there are still good officers that are fully committed to clamp down on illicit smugglers,” Mlambo said.
