A 63-year-old suspect appeared in the White River Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of rape. The incident reportedly happened at Phumlani, adjacent to Msholozi Village.
The victim (18) alleged that the suspect lured her to his bedroom on September 5 (Saturday), forcefully opened her legs and raped her.
After telling her older sister what had happened, the sister confronted the suspect. He then reportedly tried to buy her silence by bribing her with an undisclosed amount of cash.
She refused and the incident was reported to the police later that day.
The suspect was arrested and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on September 16.
The second suspect was arrested for opening a false case of armed robbery. On September 2, Cecil Davis Mokoena (31) told police that he was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash at gunpoint by three men. This reportedly took place along the Old Plaston Road.
Investigators found the story very suspicious and after Mokoena failed to answer questions relating to the alleged robbery, it was revealed that he had made a false claim.
Mokoena later admitted that the robbery never took place and that he had stolen the money and hid it in a plastic bag next to the road.
He led investigators to the alleged scene of the crime where officers recovered the bag with money.
The suspect’s second court appearance will take place on November 11.
