For each one of them it was the first time entering the annual competition.

“Entering the competition is a very good evaluation of your business,” Kirton said.

Steyn added that it also reveals your strengths and weaknesses as an individual business person.

Ms Michelle Higgo of council sponsor Emnotweni Sun and a former Businesswoman of the Year winner, was also appointed vice-president of the national committee. This is the first time a member from the branch will serve on the national committee.

“I will be representing Mpumalanga. My goal is to market Mbombela, but now also at a national level. Next year we will try to bring the conference here,” she said.

At home, the membership of the Mbombela branch has grown by 52 per cent over the past 12 months.

Ms Lasea Swift, branch chairman says their goal for the year ahead is to continue to grow their members.

“I am so proud of all our members. We have really proven ourselves to be a trendsetter club, and it is an honour to be a part of this dynamic group of women,” she said

She was happy to announce that Ford has also indicated that it would renew its sponsorship of the branch for the next year.
