TONGA – Four suspects were arrested for dagga possession by local police officers who were conducting a door-to-door operation with members of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison on Sunday in Naas. The officials visited different households and educated them about the dangers of crime and how it affected them as the community. Victims of crime were identified and a number of concerns were raised by various community members about crimes such as house robberies, sexual assault, and many more. During the campaign officials received a tip-off which led them to arrest the four suspects. They are expected to appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court soon. According to Tonga police spokesman, Lt Mzwandile Nyambi, the campaign was successful as the members were able to reach out to the community, educate them about the effects of crime and to encourage them not to get involved in crime. The SAPS committed themselves to tackling crime in Naas township and appealed to the community to speak out and work with the police at all times. By so doing they would be able to fight crime. The acting station commander, Col Bhutane Sibiya, thanked the members and all in the community who assisted during the campaign and encouraged the community police forum members to inform police when the came across any types of crime.
