Throwback Thursday: Memories from yesteryear

Here are some of the issues we had previously reported on which still affect Lowvelders.

MBOMBELA- Since it’s Throwback Thursday, Lowvelder has decided to take you on a trip down memory lane. We searched our archives to bring you a couple of stories we had featured in the newspaper over a decade ago. Some issues still affect Lowvelders and the country at large.

In October 2003 Lowvelder published a story titled “No immediate solution to illegal dumping,”. We can still confirm that unlawful dumping remains one of the most challenging issue in the Lowveld.

The article below shows Kruger National Park game rangers saving a rhino. The war against poaching has since gained momentum. Last month Lowvelder reported that 800 were slaughtered since the beginning of 2015.

Yesterday the MEC for education in Mpumalanga, Ms Reginah Mhaule, announced the department’s readiness to administer the 2015 matric exams. On the same day in 20o3 the former MEC Mr Craig Padayachee made the same announcement. The pass rate in Mpumalanga has since increased from 56 per cent in 2003 to 79 per cent in 2014.
