Owner plans to rebuild luxury lodge in six months

The owner further said the lodge was fully insured and that they "were lucky to have such a fantastic insurance company which covered all the damages and even refunded the few guests who were not happy".

MBOMBELA – The well-known water lodge in Mozambique which was reduced to ashes on Saturday, will be rebuilt and fully functioning in six months.

The owner of Flamingo Bay Water Lodge in Inhambane, Mr Dave Law, assured Lowvelder that the rebuilding period will not exceed six months and that the employees will be involved in the process.

“We will not retrench the employees. They will help to rebuild the lodge.” Law said its rooms will again be built in the water, a structure which made the lodge popular among tourists.

“We will rebuild everything exactly the way it was, except we will not use any grass or thatch roofs. The casitas (chalets) will consist of fireproof materials.”

The owner further said the lodge was fully insured and that they “were lucky to have such a fantastic insurance company which covered all the damages and even refunded the few guests who were not happy”.

Most of them, however, were happy to be moved to another lodge and “even decided to stay a few days longer,” Law said.

*Lowvelder apologises for the incorrect information that Pomene Lodge also closed its doors earlier this year (Lowvelder, Tuesday October 6, page 3). It is in fact still open.

The lodge’s booking agent can be contacted on 011-023-9901.
