Local Parkrun celebrates its first birthday

Time sure flies when you are having fun. Mashishing/Lydenburg Park Run celebrated its first birthday on Saturday October 3. Parkrun is a five-kilometre race which is run every Saturday at Bofhuis Mpumalanga Fishery.

The day was celebrated with a braai and joggers dressed up in costumes.

The local parkrun was launched on October 4, 2014 by Bruce Fordyce, South Africa’s representative of parkruns and a nine-time Comrades winner himself.

Mariaan de Lange, a volunteer, said the number of participants has increased tremendously. “The past 12 months have been amazing and we all enjoy meeting every Saturday morning.

“Some days we had to brave the cold, but we kept on going,” she said.

“We would like to thank everyone who participated in the morning run. We would also like to send our gratitude to all the volunteers and everyone that celebrated our first birthday with us,” she added.

The public is welcome to join every Saturday at 08:00 for free.
