SKUKUZA – A boy (13) drowned Letaba Rest Camp’s day visitors’ swimming pool on Thursday. He was in the Kruger National Park on church group tour.
The management of Kruger expressed their condolences and sympathy to his relatives in a statement earlier today.
“Our heartfelt condolences and sympathy go out to the family and friends of the victim of the incident. We would like to take this opportunity to advise parents not to allow children to swim without elderly supervision in the pools, especially with the heat wave that is sweeping through the country at the moment,” said Mr William Mabasa, Kruger’s General Manager of Communications and Marketing.
Camp management was alerted by one of the camp supervisors that there was a child who drowned in the pool that afternoon. Upon arrival, half of the group at the swimming pool area had their T-shirts in hand, waving them to provide air to the deceased who was lying on the pavement near the pool.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was immediately performed, but the boy would not respond. Before the local doctor arrived; a tourist who is also a medical doctor, was rushed to the scene. He checked the boy’s vital signs and confirmed that he had died.
Police arrived on the scene the same day to investigate the incident and recover the body.
