Guests heading to the Kruger National Park via the Kruger Gate were advised to use the Phabeni Gate instead due to protests on the R536 road yesterday morning.
Residents of Belfast, a village about 10km from the Kruger National Park, blocked the road to demand clean water from the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
Police were on scene and monitored the situation. According to provincial police spokesperson, Brig. Selvy Mohlala, representatives of the municipality addressed the crowd, which then dispersed. Roads were open and clear around early afternoon.
The R40 at Bushbuckridge, the R538 at Mganduzweni and the R40 and R538 t-junction at the entrance to Hazyview were also reportedly blocked around the same time. This was, however, due to the White Hazy Taxi Association’s grievances regarding jurisdiction.
The situation was, however, quickly resolved and roads were open by mid-morning.
