Following the alarming number of rape cases reported at the local police station, the police have launched an intensive hunt for the perpetrators

TONGA – Following the alarming number of rape cases reported at the local police station, the police have launched an intensive hunt for the perpetrators.

They have also called on the community to assist them in putting these offenders behind bars. On October 2 in Block B, a 40-year-old complainant alleged that she received a call from her neighbour, informing her that her 13-year-old sister had been raped. After rushing to the victim, she found her bleeding.

The girl then told hem that she was with her friend on the street when an unknown man approached them and pointed a firearm at her. He then took her to the bush and raped her.

In a separate case a 25-year-old female from KaMlushwa was raped by an unknown man. The woman alleged that she and her friend were on their way to a friend’s place after coming from a tavern.

Upon arrival, when they opened the door to enter the house, they saw an unknown man outside. He pointed a gun at her friend.

The complainant had already entered the house when the attacker forced himself inside and searched the house for money and other valuables.

He then robbed the victim of her cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money, before raping her and fleeing the scene.

Meanwhile in Mangweni two girls aged 13 and 14 alleged that they were raped by an man whom they know.

The victims alleged that they were at the residence of one of the girls, when the suspect came and asked them to help him push his vehicle to where he lived. He promised to pay each of them.

At the suspect’s house, he refused to pay them as promised but forced them inside his room. He locked the door and also played the radio very loud before undressing them and raping them. Police are investigating the matter, and the victims are undergoing treatment and counselling. The acting station commander, Lt Col Bhutani Sibiya, appealed to the communities to be careful and to not trust strangers.

“Even someone who might be known to them, avoid getting yourself in danger, for we live in a world where anyone can be a victim of crime. So it is better to take precautionary measures at all times to stay protected. Anyone with any information can contact Capt Presley Mkhatshwa on

079-501-5053,” concluded Sibiya.
