Robbers terrorising Tonga’s residents
There has been an sharp increase in the number of house robberies occurring in the Tonga Policing Cluster over the past weeks

MALALANE – There has been an sharp increase in the number of house robberies occurring in the Tonga Policing Cluster over the past weeks.
This was revealed last Thursday in a media statement issued by the spokesman for Tonga Police, Lt Mzwandile Nymabi.
According to Nyambi police are on the lookout for house robbery suspects and are appealing to communities to help with information that will lead to their arrest.
“On October 4 in Naas, a 54-year-old woman was robbed by two unknown men. The victim alleged that she was asleep when two unknown males wearing overalls, balaclavas and gloves entered and pointed a firearm at her. They demanded money, searched the house and took an undisclosed amount of cash, bank cards and two wedding rings. They also stole a Samsung tablet and fled the scene on foot,” Nyambi explained in the statement.
In another incident in the same area, the suspects fled the scene with a 4×4 vehicle which is on top of the list of vehicles most targeted by robbers.
“A 44-year-old man alleged that he was asleep when he was woken up by two unknown men armed with firearms. They tied up him and his wife with shoelaces, searched the house and took a laptop, Samsung Galaxy S5 cellphone, a Huwei cellphone and fled in the victims’ Toyota Fortuner,” Nyambi added.
According to Nyambi the next victim was a 60-year-old woman from Mzinti who was held at knifepoint in her bedroom.
He said, “The complainant alleged that she was asleep in her place of residence when she was awoken by noises inside her bedroom. She noticed an unknown man who was standing next to her bed with a knife in his hand. He demanded money.”
According to police reports the suspect searched the room and took a handbag which contained her identity book.
When the victim tried to scream for help, the suspect stabbed her in the chest.
The victim’s daughter responded to the cry for help, and was also stabbed by the suspect who fled the scene on foot.
“All the victims are undergoing counselling and treatment. Police are also still investigating the cases, and the acting station commander, Lt Col Bhutani Sibiya, is appealing to the community, especially the community of Sector 1 in Block C and Naas, to assist with information which will assist in arresting these suspects by contacting Lt Col Nancy Mnisi on 072-603-8438. Let us unite in the fight against crime, together we can make it,” Nyambi concluded.
