Fourteen injured in early morning accident on R538

Paramedics rushed to an accident scene on the R538 early this morning to find a vehicle wrapped around a tree.

According to reports, a vehicle with nineteen people veered off the road, overturned and then collided sideways with a tree this morning at around 06:17.

ER24 were first on scene and found a vehicle wrapped around a tree, debris and injured commuters spread over a large area. They were later assisted by Netcare 911, LifeMed and provincial emergency services.

One of the vehicle’s passengers died, while fourteen others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The injured were stabilized at the scene before nine were transported to Themba Hospital and five to Rob Ferreira Hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
