Local teacher to represent the province in Gauteng

SKUKUZA – A local teacher of Klipspringer Primary will represent Mpumalanga at the National Teaching Awards (NTA) in Gauteng next month in the category for Excellence in Primary School Teaching.
Mr Ettienne Roux earlier this month won the Provincial Primary School Teacher Award at a lavish ceremony in Skukuza, hosted by MEC for education, Ms Reginah Mhaule at the NTA.
This passionate teacher proved against all odds, that without electricity and proper desks in a mobile classroom, quality teaching was always possible.Roux said, “The NTA provided me with the opportunity to prove to all my fellow teachers that there is absolutely no excuse not to deliver quality education.”
He also said when one was armed with passion and dedication nothing is impossible. “Challenging contexts, limited resources and poor facilities should not prevent any teacher to create in learners the belief that they can reach their full potential.”
Roux said he saw the awards as an opportune window to provide leadership and direction in the holistic teaching and learning process. “The NTA gave me the platform to speak about the importance of influencing others to change the way they valued teaching.
“Education shaped the nation’s future and an excellent teacher is like a candle that consumes itself to light the way for others,” he added.
Roux also quoted Nelson Mandela: “In receiving an exceptional education an individual embraces a responsibility to foster such opportunities for others”.
His dedication towards education extends beyond the classroom. He also facilitates camps and educational programmes during weekends and school holidays. His plans for the future include establishing an active learning educational centre and weekend-care facility for learners in Karino.
This facility is aimed to inspire and develop responsible and patriotic citizens for the country based on Ubuntu principles.
Roux also urged any supporting organisations to help him make this dream a reality. For any ideas or support in this regard he can be contacted at
