The public toilets in front of Rob Ferreira Hospital are not only a sight for sore eyes, but have fallen into such a state of disrepair that it can no longer be used for its intended purpose.
A suggestion from local developer Mr Kobus Jacobs advocated the renovation of the building that will assist a local entrepreneur.
The building had previously served as an ideally located bathroom pit stop for patients who travelled to the hospital by bus.
When Nelspruit Post visited the building, a lock on the makeshift corrugated-iron door prevented the paper’s journalist from entering the restrooms.
The building’s interior showed it might have been used as living quarters. Old clothing and building materials have also been dumped inside.
An old grocery-store trolley, more rubbish and ashes lay strewn around the building.

When approached for comment, Mbombela Local Municipality said it would look into the matter. A week later it was still processing the enquiry.
Yesterday afternoon, the municipality said that the restrooms do not fall within their jurisdiction and should be tended to by the Department of Health. A follow-up report will reflect subsequent commentary as soon as it is received.
Meanwhile, Sonpark’s owner Mr Kobus Jacobs came up with a suggestion. “It would be great if the restrooms could be renovated to incorporate a kiosk. If this kiosk could house the woman currently selling goods in front of the hospital’s entrance, that would be wonderful,” he suggested.
