LYDENBURG – Four separate accidents occurred in a matter of two days, one of which was fatal when the driver of a black Audi was killed on impact.
According to Mr Deon Broekman, Hazmat operator at Rapid Response, the driver of the Audi supposedly tried to overtake another vehicle when it collided with an oncoming Ford Ranger on Saturday. “Speed definitely played an overall role. The driver and three passengers were travelling from Burgersfort to Lydenburg when he collided with the bakkie.”
The driver was declared dead on the scene. One of the three passengers in the Audi was also severely injured and taken to Mbombela. The other two only sustained minor injuries. The driver of the bakkie broke his ankle and leg.
Broekman closed the road for nearly three hours while debris from the accident was removed.
In two separate incidents on the same day, two cars rolled a mere 100 metres apart on the Sekhukune Road. Both drivers and passengers only sustained minor injuries. On Sunday a driver, who stole a vehicle from his employer in Phalaborwa, also rolled the vehicle with four passengers inside on the Ohrigstad Road. All sustained only minor injuries.
