Carry-on luggage brings hope to kids
An individual who travels from one country to another sacrifices a portion of their luggage allowance to take second-hand baby clothing to those in need in another country.
LYDENBURG – There is no greater joy for a new mother than dressing her baby in warm and snug clothes. Unfortunately not all have the luxury of affording clothes or even a blanket for their child.
Thanks to one dedicated woman, that can now all change. Stephanie Reinecke of Quicksell Realty was recently chosen as the ambassador for Carry On 4 Babies. An individual who travels from one country to another sacrifices a portion of their luggage allowance to take second-hand baby clothing to those in need in another country.
Carry On 4 Babies is not a charity but an initiative supported by a network of people across the world, who are committed to improving the lives of babies in Africa.
There is no money involved and no money is accepted. No administration costs or salaries are involved. This is all about human effort. It was founded by an ex-South African, Lynelle Strydom, who now lives in England.
Stephanie said she saw a piece on the initiative on Kwêla. “I went to have a look at their Facebook page and saw that there was no ambassador for Lydenburg. I contacted them and told them that I would like to become part of the project.” She explained that what made Lydenburg and surrounding areas complicated was the fact that there was no airport close by. “When you want to send some baby clothes, you can go onto their Facebook page and see who their representative is in the area you are going to visit. Those clothes can then be brought in with your carry-on luggage.”
Anybody is, however, welcome to bring the clothing to Stephanie. “I can also collect them and this includes in Steelpoort, Burgersfort and surrounding areas.” These parcels will be distributed to hospitals, churches or any other organisations or individuals who need baby clothes.
“Nothing that happened in my life has ever set me back and somewhere you have to start saying thank you and making a difference, whether it is through Carry On 4 Babies or to send water like Lydenburg Water Relief. I want to be able to look back at my life and say: ‘I did that’.”
Stephanie will also be assisted by her daughter, Simoné.
