Justice served as man is found guilty of attempted rape

This also leaves many victims with emotional scars which they then have to live with for life

MALALANE – Last week Tuesday Joseph Ernest Mazuze (56) was found guilty of attempted rape in the Barberton High Court serving above the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court.

Mazuze was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for the attempted rape of a 15-year-old girl.

Komatipoort police spokesman, Const Natacia Mbuyane, has since urged communities and rape victims not to allow attempted rape offenders to walk free.

She said, “Just because a person hasn’t succeeded in committing the crime on their first attempt, it does not mean it isn’t a crime. It still is and should not be taken lightly. It can happen again and then the victim may not be as lucky as the first time around.”

Mbuyane furthermore stressed that parents need to be more open with their children so that they can be comfortable in telling them what has happened.

“In most rape cases we find that the offender happens to be someone close to the victim, or even the entire family. But because some households are strict, victims are unable or fear reporting such matters to their own parents,” added Mbuyane.

She added that a number of rape and attempted-rape cases go unreported, as a result of this.

“This also leaves many victims with emotional scars which they then have to live with for life,” Mbuyane concluded.
