Speed kills: Man dies in motorbike accident

Reports from the scene indicated that the biker was travelling on the Long Tom Pass towards Sabie when he hit the barrier.

LYDENBURG – A fatal motorbike accident occurred on the Long Tom Pass on Saturday.Netcare 911 paramedics received a call-out for a motorbike collision on the R37 in Lydenburg.

Reports from the scene indicated that the biker was travelling on the Long Tom Pass towards Sabie when he hit the barrier.

Netcare 911 said paramedics arrived at the scene and found the man about five metres down the side of a steep drop and his bike at the base of it.

According to Mr Deon Broekman of Rapid Response, the victim was declared dead on the scene.

“He suffered severe injuries. There was nothing that could have been done for him.”

Broekman said speed played a major role as did the deceiving twists and turns of the pass. The man hailed from Johannesburg.
