SABIE – Police have warned those who plan to take part in the Tube Race this weekend, to exercise extreme caution when going down the river.
The water level is reported to be 55 millimetres lower than last year, and according to Capt Pottie Potgieter of the police’s diving unit, this poses a risk of injury.
“There are two or three places in the river where you need to get off your tube and climb over some rocks,” he said.
Where your journey down the river took about 45 minutes last year, chances are good that it might take around 90 minutes this year.
“Be patient, wear shoes and put on old clothes,” says Potgieter.
However, the area did receive some rain yesterday. Organisers report that the river is flowing nicely and that everything will continue as planned.
