Limpopo is ready for the busy Easter rush

"We are ready for the Easter rush. We will deploy more than 1 000 traffic officers to all major hot spots and these officers will conduct roadblocks all over the province. We call on all motorists to be responsible on our roads and to obey the rules at all times."

POLOKWANE – Limpopo is bracing itself for an exceptionally busy Easter Weekend, with road-safety and law-enforcement authorities ready to handle the expected sharp increase in traffic volumes.

Law-enforcement agencies have been deployed throughout the country to ensure road users observe traffic rules over the Easter holidays.

Limpopo’s transport MEC, Ms Mapula Mokaba-Phukwane, officially launched the National Easter Road Safety Campaign on behalf of transport minister, Mr Dipuo Peters at Mankweng outside Polokwane on Saturday.

The launch was attended by transport MECs from Mpumalanga, Gauteng and North West. Mokaba-Phukwane says they are using mobile testing stations to determine the roadworthiness of vehicles.

“We are ready for the Easter rush. We will deploy more than 1 000 traffic officers to all major hot spots and these officers will conduct roadblocks all over the province. We call on all motorists to be responsible on our roads and to obey the rules at all times.”

Some Zion Christian Church pilgrims will head to Moria outside Polokwane. The bulk of the pilgrims will depart as of today, with most returning on March 28. The R37 and the N1 will be some of the busiest roads in the province during this time.
