Employees of Marula Platinum Mine involved in horrific accident on R37

BURGERSFORT – Three Marula Platinum Mine’s employees were involved in a horrific incident on the R37 on the morning of May 4.
According to the spokesman for the Tubatse police, Const Jerial Movundlela, the accident happened next to Ga Mashamothane Village.
“The three were travelling in a silver Toyota Fortuner from Burgersfort in the direction of Polokwane when the driver hit a goat and lost control of the vehicle. The Fortuner overturned and rolled several times,” the spokesman said.
Movundlela added, “There were three male occupants. The driver (59) and a passenger (53) were certified dead on the scene by emergency medical services. The other passenger (52) was admitted to Dilokong Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.”
The Tubatse police revealed that all the victims were identified by their respective families.
A case of culpable homicide was opened for further investigation. Movundlela warned all livestock owners to ensure that they take care of their animals at all times to prevent this type of cases. “We would also like to urge our drivers to drive carefully on our national and local roads, as most run past villages.”
Meanwhile the Tubatse police are investigating a case of rape that occurred in Taung Village on May 8. The complainant, aged 34, alleged that his 44-year-old sister, who is mentally ill told him that she was raped by three men, two of whom are known to her.
It was further alleged that the victim was visiting one of the suspect`s families at the time of the incident. According to Movundlela, the first suspect allegedly grabbed the victim and took her outside the yard where he raped her. The other two suspects then also allegedly forced themselves on the victim.
A case of rape was opened for further investigations. The police managed to arrest one 38-year-old suspect on the same day. He is expected to appear in the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court soon.
