Golfers tee off for cancer

The Lydenburg Sanlam CANSA Challenge (SCC) golf day recently took place at the local Golf Club.

The SCC is held on golf courses across the country and raises money for the fight against cancer. It attracts thousands of golfers nationwide.

Fund-raising events are done every year in aid of the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the money is spent on cancer prevention and patient care services.

Since its launch in 1993 the SCC has made great progress in creating awareness and raising funds for CANSA to conduct research, educate the public and provide support.

More than 56 local golfers took part. According to Nico Cross, organiser of the local golf challenge, the turnout was good.

“When we look at the economy and how much so many people are struggling and compare the turnout; we feel the people of Lydenburg did their best. We are truly happy with the support they gave the event,” he said.

The SCC event is made possible by sponsors and volunteers. “We want everyone who played a role in putting the day together and everyone who participated, to know that we are grateful for the support,” he added.
