Young learners treat families to an unforgettable showcase of morning rush chaos, classroom discoveries and a heartfelt staff tribute.
Penryn Preschool brought the everyday adventures of early childhood to life with its 2026 concert, A Day in the Life of a Preschooler, a delightful production filled with music, laughter, energy and meaningful moments.
Through a series of entertaining performances on October 10, the young performers took the audience on a journey through a typical preschool day, reminding parents and families that what may seem ordinary to adults is often an extraordinary adventure through the eyes of a child.
“A Day in the Life of a Preschooler gives parents a glimpse into the daily fun, laughter and little moments that they don’t get to see. From the activities they enjoy to the friendships they build, and the unexpected things that make each day unique, the concert brings these everyday preschool experiences to life,” said school marketing specialist Mandy Barnard.
Morning rush takes centre stage

The production opened with a playful reflection on the challenges of getting a preschooler ready for school. From choosing the right outfit and searching for missing shoes to the morning rush and the race to leave the house on time, the scenes captured the familiar realities of family life with warmth and humour.
The Grade 00 girls and boys brought these moments to the stage with lively performances, before the full group explored the emotions surrounding morning drop-off. While some children happily rush into the classroom, others need an extra hug or a little more reassurance before saying goodbye. The performance offered a light-hearted reminder that every child experiences these early milestones differently.
The fun continued with a look at the messages and phone calls that often follow once children have settled at school. Through playful scenes, the performers highlighted the care and reassurance teachers provide to parents while helping their little ones navigate the school day.
Curiosity thrives inside the classroom

Inside the classroom, the Grade 000 performers celebrated the curiosity and imagination that make early learning so special. Preschoolers may have their own unique answers to questions, plenty of stories to share and an endless supply of questions of their own, but it is often through these conversations, discoveries and moments of play that meaningful learning takes place.
No preschool day would be complete without boundless energy, the challenge of tidying up and the excitement of making friends. The performances captured the enthusiasm with which young children explore their surroundings, as well as the important social skills they develop along the way.
Learning to share, take turns, help one another and make peace after a disagreement are all part of the preschool journey. Through these everyday interactions, children begin to build friendships and develop a sense of belonging within their school community.
Special tribute honours beloved staff member

One of the special moments in the programme was a tribute to Lillian Khoza, affectionately known as ‘Teacher Aunty’. Recognising the important role she plays in the preschool, the performance celebrated her dedication, kindness and willingness to help wherever needed. The tribute acknowledged that a nurturing school environment is built by many caring people, each contributing to the well-being and happiness of its children.
As the day drew to a close, the programme returned to a familiar question asked by parents everywhere: “What did you do today?” The predictable answer, ‘Nothing’, provided a humorous conclusion to a day filled with learning, playing, imagining, laughing and making memories.
Beneath the laughter, however, was a deeper message about the importance of the early childhood years. For parents and teachers alike, the rushed mornings, difficult goodbyes, repeated instructions and little mishaps are all part of a much bigger journey.
It is in the small moments, a new skill mastered, a story shared, a hand reaching out for comfort or a child running into a welcoming embrace, that the value of these years becomes clear.
The concert’s teachers’ performance offered a heartfelt acknowledgement of the love and commitment that underpin early childhood education, celebrating the partnership between families and teachers who work together to help children grow, learn and flourish.
Choir finale brings concert full circle

The production concluded with the Senior Prep Choir joining the preschool children for a moving rendition of ‘Abantwana Bakho’, bringing the concert full circle and celebrating the wider Penryn community.
From the youngest children taking their first steps into school life to older scholars who once stood on the same stage, the finale reflected the shared journey of growth, belonging and possibility that connects generations of Penryn children.
Through A Day in the Life of a Preschooler, Penryn Preschool celebrated more than a school day. It honoured the wonder of childhood, the dedication of those who nurture it and the small, seemingly ordinary moments that become treasured memories.
These are the moments that remind us why early childhood matters and why every little step deserves to be celebrated.
