
MBOMBELA – A case of attempted murder is being investigated against a grade nine pupil of Curro Nelspruit after he allegedly poured petrol over a classmate with the intent of setting him alight.
Capt Dawie Pretorius, spokesman for the local police, confirmed that the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is investigating the case after the incident on April 21.

According to informed sources the suspect poured petrol over the victim. He was allegedly on the verge of lighting a match when another pupil intervened and confiscated the matches from him.
The incident was reported to the police and the case opened. The suspect has since reportedly been suspended from school.
Lowvelder approached Curro Nelspruit for comment. Headmaster, Mr Paul Viljoen, referred the newspaper to the school’s head office.

“The safety and security of all learners under our care are our primary priority. All incidents on school level are dealt with through internal protocols and, for the protection of minors and their families, will not be discussed in any public forum,” the school said.
The newspaper informed the school of the allegations levelled at the suspect, to which it responded, “Please check the facts stated below carefully, as it is not an accurate reflection of the matter at hand.”
