The youth in Mashishing enjoyed a fun-filled event on Thursday June 16 at Mashakeng Stadium.

MASHISHING – The youth in Mashishing enjoyed a fun-filled event on Thursday June 16 at Mashakeng Stadium. The event was organised by Sakhasive Youth Development. It is intended to keep young people from the streets by hosting various sports games.

Sakhasive is a youth development which was started by a group of five people that are planning to bring change in the community of Mashishing.

Sakhasive is a siSwati word which means “we are building the nation”.The programme consisted of several activities taking place simultaneously.

According to Mr Tebogo Mashile, one of the five founders of the development, they wanted to host an event which would attract the attention of all the young people in Mashishing.

“As a team, we saw fit to start a project that will help every young person and that will also give back to the community. We decided that our projects must include fun-filled events which will encourage young people to focus in sports and also to keep them motivated about life.”

During the sports day, the young people took part in games such as Morabaraba, tug of war, soccer, netball, sack race and many more. “We made sure that we have almost all the games that are entertaining to young people because we know they love different things,” said Mashile.

“We are planning to have more events of its kind so that we will be able to help make a difference in our community because we can see the residents came out in numbers to attend the fun day.”

The team had to ask for donations from local businesses and assistance from the public. “We want to thank our sponsors and the residents who supported our dream; they helped us host a successful event for the youth,” Mashile concluded.
